The Bacchae : Agave
From the Bacchae to the Agave reimagines Euripides’ myth from the perspective of Agave, giving voice to a woman long silenced by others’ narratives. In this adaptation, all divine and mythological elements are stripped away, placing Agave’s story in a contemporary, working-class context. She is a single mother and factory worker; Dionysus, a man abandoned by his family, searching for belonging. Their encounter becomes a fragile attempt to create meaning and recognition in a world that has neglected them. Agave’s awakening brings not liberation but irreversible tragedy. The performance explores identity, womanhood, and the psychological weight of suppressed lives through a powerful blend of text, performance, and multimedia.
Developed as a co-production between Peripetija Production and Ad Libitum, the piece integrates Ad Libitum’s technical and multimedia design as a vital part of its storytelling language.
